| The Division of Gastroenterology
provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients
with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. These services
are offered on both an inpatient and an outpatient basis.
The Digestive Diagnostic Treatment Center uses sophisticated
technology and a variety of surgical and therapeutic options
to treat patients with compassion and understanding.
Diagnostic services provided by this division include
upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy,
proctoscopy, ERCP, esophageal motility, endoanal ultrasound,
breath tests and the entire spectrum of standard endoscopic
procedures, enterscopy (small bowel endoscopy) and Argon
Beam Coagulation for coagulation of tumors and bleeding
sites.
The division performs diagnostic manometric studies
of the esophagus, rectum and sphincter of Oddi, as well
as 24-hour ambulatory pH monitoring for patients with
gastroesophageal reflux and for patients who may have
asthma caused by aspiration of stomach acid. These data
may also be particularly helpful in diagnosing patients
with non-cardiac chest pain.
